On December 4th, 2008, exactly nothing happened. Or perhaps, many things happened. In either case no one remembers a single second of that, perhaps, fateful day.

That being said it would seem that December 3rd was an enormously important day. Although, in many cases, it was not. On this day everything went normally. Everyone in the world who was capable of doing such woke up at a normal time, went about their day in an excruciatingly normal fashion, and then went to bed as they normally would. When they woke up they looked at their cell phones, and computers, and clocks that showed the date, and they discovered-- Much to their surprise-- December 5th. This alone was quite incredible, though widely passed off as technical error. However, what they discovered on December sixth is regarded as entirely more incredible.

Every human in the entire world-- Except for perhaps a few unfortunate persons-- Found that they had a remarkable (though not 100% unique) ability or combination of abilities. These abilities ranged from elemental control (such as geo or pyrokinesis) to healing to mind control.

At first this seemed pretty darn great. Then people started dying.

By December 20th a fair amount of chaos had erupted. After all, even the psychotic and the homeless had powerful abilities, and they were most likely not happy with their situation. Things were on fire, people were falling from the sky, city streets where being blown from existence. But then it stopped. Humanity just... Adapted. By January 1st, 2009 everything seemed... Normal.

Everything did not go back to the exact way it was, of course. Everyone still had strange gifts. But few things were spontaneously exploding and the crime rate evened out quite nicely. However, things are not as picture perfect as they seem. Gang wars are more dangerous than ever, and people have been a bit reverted to a survival of the fittest state of mind.

So, is natural selection going to pick you?
